ClickOnce Deployment for Windows Applications
ClickOnce is a new deployment technology that offers self-updating Windows-based applications that can be installed and run with minimal user interaction.

ClickOnce overcomes three major issues inherent in deployment:

  1. Difficulties in updating applications. With traditional Microsoft Windows Installer deployment, whenever an application is updated, the user is required to reinstall the entire application; with ClickOnce deployment, the updates are provided automatically. Only those portions of the application that have changed are downloaded, then the fully cached and updated application is installed at run time.

  2. Impact to the user's computer. With Windows Installer deployment, applications often rely on shared components, with the potential for versioning conflicts; with ClickOnce deployment, each application is self-contained and cannot interfere with other applications.

  3. Security permissions. Windows Installer deployment requires administrative permissions and allows only limited user installation; ClickOnce deployment allows non-administrative users to install and grants only those Code Access Security permissions necessary for the application.
In the past, these issues sometimes caused developers to decide to create Web applications rather than Windows-based applications, sacrificing the rich user interface and responsiveness of Windows Forms for ease of installation. With applications deployed using ClickOnce, we can utilise the best of both technologies.

LAUNCH YOUR SIMULATOR FIRST!

Before launching the It's Your Plane ("IYP") application, you need to bring up your Flight Simulator, minimise it, then go to:

http://www.itsyourplane.com/iyp314/publish.htm
Once you are past the IYP LOGIN SCREEN, restore your flight simulator and bring it out of the PAUSE mode. The IYP application window remains in the background until you want to close the IYP program. To close IYP, minimise your flight simulator once again and click on the IYP EXIT button.

Vista Users - Please Read This!

By default, Windows Vista has a lot of security features turned on. So if you are having problems running It's Your Plane ("IYP") on Vista, chances are the User Account Control ("UAC") is the problem. UAC is really intrusive, and even if you are using an Administrator account, it will limit the usage rights to the system.

UAC requires that you give permission to any software programme that needs access to your system. This is an annoying feature. If you are running FS9 as an Administrator, UAC will not grant IYP access to FSUIPC; running FS9 as a "normal user" in Vista, could cause problems accessing installation areas that require "Administrator rights" – thus creating a "catch 22".

  1. Give yourself user administrator rights on the folder you want to use in Flightsim.
  2. Locate your Flight Simulator 9 directory and right click on "Flight Simulator 9" and click on Properties.
  3. Up comes a popup - click on Security.
  4. Now highlight your user and click on edit. A new popup with permissions comes up.
  5. Again highlight your user and click on "Full control" then OK.
  6. A new Popup advises you that you are changing the permission settings. Just click YES.
If you Want to Turn off User Account Control, do this:
Under the "Windows Button" right-click "User Accounts" and in the search window, click on "User Accounts".   You should now have a popup window where you can choose "Turn User Account Control on and off". Press this menu link and you should be presented with a new screen with a Check Box. Un-check this box and click on OK. The computer will want to restart at this point. Restart and you should now be able to use IYP.

There Are Two Required Downloads for BOTH XP AND Vista Users!

In order to operate the It's Your Plane application in combination with Microsoft's Flight Simulator, you need to download and install two additonal pieces of code that are permanently installed on your PC
  1. The Microsoft Speech Recognition and Text-To-Speech system

  2. The Microsoft DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer system

Speech Recognition
Download the Microsoft Speech Engine SDK

Scroll down the page until you get to:
    SpeechSDK51.exe       68.0 MB
Install the SDK.

After Installing the Microsoft Speech Engine SDK

It is easy to find out whether or not you have the Microsoft Speech Engine properly installed on your PC. Simply open up your computer's control panel by left clicking on the desktop Start button and selecting "Control Panel" from the menu.

Speech Icon

Locate the icon "Speech" from your control panel and open up the speech properties dialog by double clicking on it. (If you do not have this icon you do not have the Speech Recognition engine installed.)

Speech Panel

In the Language section on the Speech Recognition tab of the Speech Properties dialog you will see a drop down box. If you do not have a Speech Recognition tab you do not have the Speech Recognition engine installed properly.

Speech Panel Engine

If the drop down box contains the value "Microsoft English Recognizer V5.1", then you have the correct speech engine installed for proper operation of the "It's Your Plane" application.   If the "Microsoft English Recognizer V5.1" is in the drop down list but is not the current value, make sure that you select it and press the Apply button.

Unless you are going to have more than one person using the speech application, leave the Default Profile selected.

Set up the Audio Input, then use the Configure Microphone option to set your levels.

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE: USE A HIGH-QUALITY MICROPHONE.

A high-quality headset microphone can dramatically improve the accuracy of speech recognition by your computer.

TRAINING

It is highly recommended to do multiple training sessions.   Click the "More Training" button and select a session for training (you can do more training at anytime). The more training sessions you perform, the better the system will operate!

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer
