Some IYP Things Worth Knowing!

Takeoff Go Around (TO/GA) Switch

Over the past few months, I have noticed that a number of IYP users attempt to execute a TO/GA On/Off with the Bombardier Learjet 45. Naturally, since this aircraft does not have a TO/GA switch, the IYP application does not support this command. And, you'll likely have Michelle asking something like, "Where did you get your pilot's license?"

There is, however, a way to accomplish this with the Learjet 45... well, sort of. Try saying...

"Indicated Airspeed On."

You need to be careful using this method. Make sure you have a longgggggggggg runway! When using the IAS On function to rumble down the runway, has a tendency to oscillate. i.e., the aircraft's airspeed will hunt until it lifts off. So, there you have it. Use this trick with caution!

Bring Up the [Window Name] / Get rid of the [Window Name]

The It's Your Plane application reads the "Window Titles" from the aircraft's PANEL.CFG file in order to facilitate the commands: "Bring up the [Window Name]" and "Get rid of the [Window Name]". Unfortunately, the Window Names in Non-English contain characters that the standard ASCII table cannot read. Therefore...

AN ERROR CAN OCCUR.

Since the IYP application only operates in English at this point, it makes no sense to be using non-English names, because you would have to say, for example, "Bring up the Funkgruppe", or, "Bring up the Planche radio", instead of "Bring up the Radio Stack". Therefore, the simplest resolution is to change all Non-English Window Names to English Window Names within the PANEL.CFG.

NOTE: Changing the Window Titles will not adversely affect the simulator's operations; these names are effectively "comments".

For example, the German Window Titles are:

    [Window Titles]
    window00=Hauptinstrumentenbrett
    window01=Funkgruppe
    Window02=GPS
    Window03=Instrumentenbrett für Leistung
    Window04=Oberes Instrumentenbrett
    Window05=Instrumentenbrett für Trimmung
    Window06=PFD
    Window07=MFD
    Window08=EICAS
    Window09=Kleines Instrumentenbrett
They need to be replaced with:
    [Window Titles]
    window00=Main Panel
    window01=Radio Stack
    Window02=GPS
    Window03=Throttle Panel
    Window04=Overhead Panel
    Window05=Trim Panel
    Window06=PFD
    Window07=MFD
    Window08=EICAS
    Window09=Mini Panel

Cockpit Voice Recorder

Whenever you make a flight with It's Your Plane, transcripts of both your spoken commands, as well as Michelle's responses (your beautiful Co-Pilot), are stored in transcript files located in a folder under your flight simulator's root directory, called "IYPlogs". e.g.,
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\FS2004\IYPlogs\20070727125045.htm
About This Particular Transcript   (below)

This is a sample transcript of Robert Cezar (that's me) flying the Quick Start familiarization flight, that had me take off from Seattle's Int'l Airport in a Cessna C172SP from runway 34L, climb to 3,500 feet while heading east 90 degrees, then once at 3,500, turn right downwind on a heading of 160 and descend to 2,200 feet.   Once I was 20 miles south of KSEA, I turned right onto base bearing 250, then turned to heading 310 to intersect the Localiser and had Michelle pretty much land the plane for me; I'm lazy!   Besides which, it's fun to watch her "doing her thing".

By the way, if you haven't already run the Quick Start flight in order to familiarize yourself with some of the unique features of It's Your Plane, then you're really missing out on a lot of fun!
